Company in Greece, Business in Greece

Work permit is obligatory even for those persons, who wish to run own business activity. After obtaining such permit, the rules concerning company’s establishment are the same as for Greek entrepreneurs.

Within 5 days after obtaining permit, an entrepreneur must turn to the Greek Health Department in order to make medical research. The business activity must be commenced within 30 days after medical research.

It is advisable to render the whole opening process to the local lawyers, who know local departments. Learning Greek language is also a good idea. The foreigners who speak even a little Greek are treated better than those who expect the inlanders to speak German or English. The best results come from cooperation with local businessman. Apart from the obviously simpler market entry, the local businessman can handle the legal procedures easily and can omit the language barriers.

Opening a business on one’s own is easier, when one knows the local environment well. In Greece special licenses are required in case of the following activities:
electric fittings, repairs, modernization of cars and motorbikes, ventilation, heating, hairdressing, optical services, dental services, telecommunication services. The licenses are also required in case of the following jobs: Doctor, lawyer, people who render transport and touristic services. The companies must obtain permit for work in the following industries: processing and production of food or drinks, production of medicines, chemicals and optical products.
