Company in Finland, Business in Finland

In Finland there are limitations regarding few occupations. Everyone who wants to open: travel agency, bookstore, pharmacy, restaurant, café, shop with beverages, insurance broker, security or trade broker, must obtain relevant license.

Apart from the sole trader (fee for registration is 65 Euro), the most popular type of activity is Limited liability company. Because of the small stock capital (8 000 Euro) and liability up to the amount of shares it is chosen mostly by small and middle enterprises.

There are another three types of companies to choose from: general partnership, limited partnership – fee for registration is 155 Euro, and the public limited company – fee for registration is 330 Euro. All the formalities last about three weeks. It is advisable to hire a lawyer who knows law and local conditions. There are also offices which can have the documents translated into Finish or Swedish (by certified translator).

Before starting an activity, one has to fill in the form with basic data in the Patent Office. Registration is not difficult – only entry in the Trade Register is required.

In case of the limited liability company a permit from the Ministry of Trade and Commerce is required. At least half of the shareholders must be permanent residents of EU (private persons) or have registered office in EU (legal persons).
